This Saturday, we celebrate the arrival of spring by breaking our
overlong hiatus on live shows at the shop with an evening of eccentric
electronics courtesy of Detroit’s wetdogg, local hero Bookworms, and
Ergot’s own DJ Nihal Ramchandani.
Sarah Cohen’s wetdogg
project released one of our favorite debut LPs of 2025 with ‘pssssssp….’
On album highlight “ehhh ehhh,” a properly furrowing acid line and
stuttered vocal loop form the scaffolding upon which Cohen sings “you
haven’t been in my house / for a very long time.” This inversion of the
classic house music/party trope of inclusive communal jubilation instead
highlights an absence, pointing to the private world that wetdogg’s
music inhabits—a kind of bedroom pop version of Motor City techno soul
that Carlos Souffront calls “total instant earworm music.”
Addressing
the tension between domestic intimacy and technological surveillance, a
recent wetdogg radio session effervesces with the mantra “turn my wi-fi
off / turn my swag on.” We’ll be following suit, encouraging attendees
to BYOB and turn-your-phone-off for this free gathering.
